A Christmas Club account is a short-term savings account designed to help you save money for the holidays . When you decide to join a Christmas Club, Clark County Credit Union will help you customize your account to fit your needs.
At regular intervals (usually monthly or bi- weekly), a specified amount will be automatically transferred from your checking account to your Christmas Club account. Throughout the year, you will earn interest on the money saved in your holiday account. Then, shortly before the holiday season begins, the account will be paid to you as a lump sum, and you can start shopping.
How Did Christmas Clubs Get Started?
The first known Christmas Club dates back to 1909. Merrell Landis was the treasurer at Carlisle Trust Company when he launched the club. The original club had over 350 members. On December 1st, each member received a payment of $28 of which they had saved. Since then, the idea has spread widely and has helped families to budget for Christmas for over 100 years.
