Savvy Savings

We're all trying to make everything go further these days. Here are some Savvy Saving tips from Jeanie Burns, CCCU employee and resident Savvy Saver.

Time and money, two things I never have enough of! In today's economy it's even more important to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the best way possible.

Daddy's Chicken
Try this budget saver for dinner. Just prep before work in the morning and come home to a hot, fresh and inexpensive dinner.

Daddy's Chicken
1 large can of Cream of Chicken Soup
Frozen chicken pieces
Choice of Seasoning (we use garlic salt, pepper and paprika)

Crock Pot:
Layer chicken and cream of chicken soup with seasoning.

Put on low - cook 8 to 10 hours. (Please note the chicken needs to be frozen - the ice crystals will help create a gravy with the soup) We like to serve ours over rice with a salad and garlic toast. It is an easy dish to adapt to individual taste. My eldest son likes it with Cream of Mushroom soup in place of the Cream of Chicken soup. Enjoy!

The Perfect Jewelry Box
Ladies - have you had jewelry boxes that were too small? Boxes that just didn't organize well? I found something I really like - an inexpensive plastic fishing tackle box with dividers. I could customize the size for my needs and now I group my earrings according to color and can find them in a second! I created larger compartments for pins, etc. I also recycled a plastic pencil box that my kids no longer needed for my bracelets. Since neither of these are especially eye appealing - I store them in a "cute" box.

Junk Mail
I work with paper all day so the last thing I want is deal with unnecessary paper at home! I heard the best way to sort your mail is to do it over a trashcan. I agree, however, don't forget - shred anything with your name on it especially those nuisance credit card applications. I find that if I immediately sort my mail between bills, friendly mail from friends, and junk mail I don't have a pile building up.
